Life-changing job promotion

Back in November 2019, we were contacted by the Country Director of one of Deloitte’s entities in Europe. He had attended a training session we delivered for one of his teams a few months earlier and knew we were the right people to help with what would likely be the most important presentation of his career. Our client had been invited to a critical meeting in early 2020 in Prague, Czech Republic — one that would determine whether he would move several levels up in the Deloitte hierarchy. The stakes were high, as the presentation was effectively an interview for the next step in his career. As he told us himself: “This is a life- and career-changing event for me!” However, there was a serious challenge in front of us — none of us had any idea who the audience was. The meeting was private, and the identity of the jury remained unknown. And that’s where the journey started…

Process

The first thing we did was we sat down and started brainstorming on who these people might be and how we can learn more about them. We decided to ask the organizers of the event first but they refused to give up information. Then we discovered something that could help us — the participants from previous years. Long story short, we found information about the jury in Deloitte’s intranet, which gave us valuable insight into how to craft a story that would resonate with them. Once we completed the story we gave it to the design team with quite some requirements for them…

Step 1

Storytelling

We decided to present 3 projects (+1 as a surprise) that our client wanted to take on if they get to become a Partner. We utilised the power of contrasts and incorporated real customer stories to paint the picture of why each one of the initiatives is needed. Once we made that clear for each one, we presented the solution and what benefits it will have for the whole organisation. The presentation's end was also carefully planned with a very strong call to action and motive why the jury should execute on that call to action.

Step 2

Design

We wanted to stand out from Slide 1! That’s why we created an opening that stayed true to the brand but sent a clear signal to the jury — we were about to put on a show. We created these flying pieces of the circle and timed them so that he could connect, start the slideshow and get in front of the jury in exactly the time it takes for the pieces to get to their places.

Step 3

Animation

We used the Morph transition to create smooth and unexpected movement on the slides, while also relying on classic features such as Motion Path animations. As always, animations are a tool, so we used them to help us communicate and convey our messages in the easiest way for the audience.

Step 4

Final Touches

Every single slide was double and triple checked for various issues and inconsistencies and then the whole presentation was compressed using a specialised software driving the overall file size to just 4MB. The latter is needed for the sole purpose of limiting the chances of PowerPoint becoming not responsive during the presentation.

The results

Our client got the promotion and became a Partner in Deloitte. What's more, he was surprised that all of his competitors used Deloitte's corporate template and didn't put in the effort to do something different. Are you surprised? We weren't. However, we love it when the others help make our client's life easier.
